Umar Akmal and Umar Gul Friday won for Pakistan their Group 2 match they had almost lost to South Africa at the Super Eight stage of the World Twenty20 Championship at the R Premadasa Stadium here.
Requiring 58 off the last five overs, a brilliant 49-run match-winning stand between Akmal (43 not out) and Gul gave Pakistan a two-wicket win from an all but lost situation.
Chasing South Africa's score of 133 for six, pacer Gul smashed 32 off 17 balls which included four sixes and four fours as Pakistan ended up with 136 for eight.
