Zaheer Khan's expensive sojourn to England

India vs England, 1st Test: Match in Images
Anant Gaundalkar

India's premier fast bowler Zaheer Khan is all set to return home after his two truncated bowling efforts in England due to hamstring and ankle injuries. His performance during the tour matches is: 13.3-8-18-2 for the losing cause in the first Test match at Lord's and 3-0-24-0 in the drawn tour match versus Northamptonshire at Nothampton. In both matches, he couldn't complete his spell due to injuries.

During his stint of 30 days in England from July 10 to August 8, 2011, Zaheer earned Rs 20.07 lakhs by way of retention amount, professional fee for appearing in a solitary Test, for not appearing in yet another Test and daily allowance - the full break-up of which is enumerated in the following exclusive table.

Thus, Zaheer Khan earned on the average Rs 10 lakhs for a single wicket claimed and Rs 1.22 lakhs for each over bowled - a very expensive tour indeed!
