Karachi: Former leg-spinner Abdul Qadir will contest the Pakistan Cricket Board elections for the post of chairman insisting he had the ability to improve the administration of the sport in the country.

"I will be contesting the forthcoming PCB elections because I know I have the ability and cricketing experience to make a difference to Pakistan cricket," Qadir said.

Qadir said he took the decision after consulting his family and friends in the cricket circle.

"It is the first time we are hearing about elections being held in the PCB and we all want this to happen because it will only be a step forward for Pakistan cricket," the former chief selector said.

The Islamabad High Court has ordered that elections be held in the PCB for the key post next month although an appeal filed by the PCB will be heard on November 4 by a divisional bench of the IHC which had also stopped the acting Chairman, Najam Sethi from exercising his full powers.

Qadir said that it was about time former players came forward and did their bit for Pakistan cricket.

"Suffice to say our cricket is not in very good health and I strongly believe that cricketers have a big role to play even in the administration of the board," Qadir said.

Other former players like Zaheer Abbas and Mohsin Khan have also expressed their intent to contest the elections when they are held.
