About time the Indians brought in Manoj Tiwary

Four years back it was at the Gabba in Brisbane, that India won the tri series by beating the favourites and home team Australia in the best of three finals. India won both the games and so did not need the third game. Unfortunately, in 2012 Brisbane has not turned out to be a good venue for then having lost both the matches here and that too with big margins.

Without Dhoni, the Indian team were handicapped to a great extent because not only is he the skipper of the team, but he was also the man in form with the bat along with Gautam Gambhir. Virender Sehwag who led the side, had been out of action for a week or so and he has not been in any sort of form at all. His dismissal reaching out to a wide delivery and slashing it to deep third man was disappointing because the ball was not bouncing so he could have cut it along the ground, but he went for the risky shot with the deep third man in position and that too when he has not been in any form.

In such a scenario it is important for a player to fight it out and try and play himself into some sort of form after which the risky shots can be attempted. Far too often in recent times has Sehwag transgressed the thin line between carefree and careless batting and this dismissal was an example of that. It is all very well to say that it is ones natural game but if no allowance is given to the structured batsman when he cannot raise the tempo of his game, and is labelled selfish why are no such tags given to those who cannot lower their sights and try and play with a bit of caution when the situation demands it.

What also was strange was to see Suresh Raina and Virat kohli bowl the last couple of overs of the innings. Those are the overs when the opposition is looking to get maximum and you need experienced regular bowlers operating then. Admittedly Vinay Kumar and Umesh Yadav had gone for plenty, but still they are in the team as specialist bowlers and they should have been used. The last ten overs again went for plenty like in the game against Australia and when a team finishes strongly like that, it goes in to defend the total with great confidence.

India needed a good solid start, but before they reached 50 runs the top three were back in the pavilion and with Dhoni not playing it was going to be an uphill task as it eventually turned out to be. Kohli and Raina tried to stem the rot and down the order Irfan Pathan showed how useful he can be. Jadeja disappointed again and it is about time the Indians brought in Manoj Tiwary, who can also bowl a few overs just like Jadeja is doing.

India were at their best when they had a team with six batsmen and Dhoni and four bowlers with one or two of the batsmen bowling the fifth bowlers quota between them. There is no question they are missing Yuvraj big time for he bowled his overs usefully often picking wickets and was seldom expensive.

India are in a soup at the moment and unless they lift their game they will be flying back home earlier than anticipated or is it what they want after a long tiring fruitless tour?
