Islamabad: Zaka Ashraf has been elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also patron of the PCB, directly appointed Ashraf as chairman last year.

However, a new election process was triggered when the PCB’s constitution was amended after the International Cricket Council set a June deadline requiring more independence from cricket boards.

Ashraf will serve four years.

The PCB said a four-member nomination committee interviewed Ashraf and Aftab Ahmad Khan, who is a former chairman of Lahore Stock Exchange.

The committee unanimously recommended Ashraf to the board of governors, who all backed Ashraf.
