The Indian campaign at the Australian Open came to an end on Tuesday with the exit of Leander Paes and his Australian partner Samantha Stosur from the mixed doubles event.
Paes and Stosur lost 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 to the German-Colombian duo of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah in the second round.
India had a dismal showing at Melbourne Park in doubles this year. In men's doubles, Paes and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan lost in the first round with their respective partners. Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan also lost in the first round. In mixed doubles, apart from Paes, only Bopanna was in the fray but he lost in the first round.
In the singles event, Prajnesh Gunneswaran made it to his maiden Grand Slam main draw. He faced Frances Tiafoe in the first round and bowed out in straight sets.
