England batsman Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the one-day series against India next month due to family illness.
The wicketkeeper-batsman returned home before the final Twenty20 fixture in Mumbai last Saturday for the same reason and his compassionate leave has now been extended to cover the five-match series, the Sun reports.
Joe Root would replace Bairstow in the one-day squad after the Yorkshireman earned a call-up after impressing on his Test debut in Nagpur earlier this month.
The news continues a disappointing winter for Bairstow, who made nine in his only Test innings against India last month, was left out of the first T20 match and then flew back to England to be with his family. (ANI)
