Cricket Australia (CA) has awarded Big Bash League (BBL) top performers, Shaun Marsh, Aaron Finch, Ben Laughlin, Ben Cutting, James Faulkner and Adam Voges with a call up in the Twenty20 squad for their two-match series against touring Sri Lanka.
Marsh was rewarded with a return to international cricket after topping the run scoring in the Big Bash playing for runners-up the Perth Scorchers, News.com.au reports.
However, Marsh's former Western Australia partner Luke Pomersbach has been overlooked after almost single-handedly taking the Brisbane Heat to the Big Bash title, it further reported.
Third-placed Aaron Finch was also chosen despite being dropped from the one-day team after two poor games for Australia to begin the five-match series against Sri Lanka, the paper added.
The bolter in the squad is Hobart Hurricanes seame Laughlin while chairman of selectors John Inverarity confirmed veteran David Hussey has missed out to exciting off-spinning all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the paper said.
Despite winning the title the Heat have just one player in the squad, fast bowler Cutting, who has also been added to the one-day squad for the final match against Sri Lanka in Hobart on Wednesday.
The squad has been chosen for Saturday's match at Sydney's ANZ Stadium and next Monday's game at the MCG against Sri Lanka.
Inverarity said each of those players, Finch, Marsh, Voges, Cutting, James Faulkner (Stars) and Laughlin had shown outstanding form in the T20 format over the past two months, the paper concluded.
