Cricket camp organized in Assam to unearth bowlers

A cricket camp was recently organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to unearth bowling talent. It attracted over 1200 participants.

This was the first such camp held here, as budding bowlers were judged on various parameters by selectors Juginder Puri and Manish Bali, who gave the youngsters, tips on technique and style.

"Setting up such a camp is a good idea, as there are talented players in Assam, but they need a good platform to showcase their talent," Dhiraj Gogoi, a participant, said.he BCCI, in association with the NCA, is looking for bowling talent from across the country.

Initially, five fast bowlers and two spinners were selected, but when they were asked bowl a variety of deliveries at right and left handed batsmen, they could not make the cut.

"The BCCI and NCA want cricketing talent to emerge from the remotest corners of the country. In order to achieve this aim, the BCCI and NCA have decided to start an open talent hunt to find the players," Bikash Baruah, Secretary, Assam Cricket Association, said.

The Assam Cricket Association also inaugurated an international standard gym for its players.

The state is also constructing a new cricket stadium at Barsapara, while Guwahati continues to host international matches at regular intervals.

The state is now waiting to see its first player in the Indian team.

It has huge hopes for Abu Nechim, a promising Assamese player.

Recently, the Assam's women's cricket team surprised all, by becoming national champions. (ANI)
