Crowds go berserk as Khali not at event; organiser held

GURGAON: Disappointed at Khali not being present at a wrestling event here late Saturday evening as promised by the organisers, the spectators stormed the stage and created chaos. Police said the chief organiser was arrested on Sunday.

"Chief organiser DS Babbar of 'Yoddhaon Ka Maha Sangram' was arrested and a case of cheating and breach of trust registered against the organisers of the show," said Krishna Murari, assistant commissioner of police of Sadar, Gurgaon.

The audience was invited claiming that wrestler Khali will be the guest of honour but the crowd lost patience because of his absence at the venue - Tau Devi Lal stadium.

"The organisers had said that the chief minister (Bhupinder Singh Hooda) and Khali will come. We had offered them our assistance but they refused. When things got out of control, we had to intervene and save the models and actors present on stage from the crowd," Murari said.

He said the tickets were sold beyond capacity and there was no one to check the tickets. "There was complete mismanagement," he added.

Bollywood actor Sharat Saxena was anchoring the show but for over two hours the crowd was left wondering when Khali would come, Murari said.

The police said neither Khali nor the chief minister was invited.
