Sensational Mumbai Indians clinch last ball thriller over Chennai Super Kings

Two back to back losses have put the pressure on the Kolkata team. They need just one win to be certain of qualifying for the playoffs but they also want to finish in the top two since it will mean one more chance to get into the finals. The defending champions Chennai are coming good when it matters though their supporters will say that they are leaving it too late for the welfare of anybody’s health.

Yes, they are winning at the last moment which is keeping everyone on tenterhooks. That of course shows great temperament for only champions are able to lift themselves from seemingly impossible situations and the Chennai team have been in some real sticky ones and still have come out smelling like roses.

The last ball win over the current number two team means they have kept themselves in the hunt for a place in the playoffs. Kolkata have only themselves to blame for despite getting such a brilliant start from Gambhir and McCullum they made a hash of things and ended up with just 158 when they should have got at least another 20 runs more.

Kudos to the Chennai bowlers who bowled superbly to restrict the other Kolkata batsmen and Kolkata will have a long hard look at the area where this season they have struggled to convert good starts into a sizeable score. Their bowling also is a cause for worry as was seen in the loss to both Mumbai and Chennai.

Mumbai will be on a high after the marvellous win over Bangalore . They have never lost in Bangalore and the manner in which Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard took the game away was breathtaking. The development of Rayudu this season as a player who thrives under pressure has been the feature of Mumbai's wins and Kieron Pollard also cleared doubts about his second innings batting by an innings that got better by the ball.

Both batsmen have been excellent when batting first but it is when the pressure of the chase is on that a batsman’s temperament is seen. Rayudu had shown glimpses of it last year itself but has gone even better this year and this effort from Pollard will be most enjoyed by Mumbai supporters who know what he is capable of.

The last ball finishes have certainly made for the most exciting of the IPL seasons so far and with most  teams being well matched there are likely to be more in store as teams clamber to get into the playoffs. It is wonderful for the neutrals but heart-stopping for the supporters.
