Mumbai: Daljit Singh, who headed the now disbanded Pitches and Grounds Committee of the Cricket Board, would work as a consultant in the preparation of Wankhede Stadium wicket ahead of the 2011 World Cup.

"We have requested Daljit Singh to help us in the preparation of the wicket once the work on the 40-yard area in the centre of the ground commences on March 1. He will work in the capacity of a consultant," Mumbai Cricket Association's treasurer and World Cup tournament director Prof Ratnakar Shetty said on Wednesday.

The former Bihar wicketkeeper-batsman would help MCA's pitch curator and former Test opener Sudhir Naik in preparing the pitch at the Wankhede Stadium which is undergoing renovation for conducting the ties in the World Cup, including the final.

Singh was the head of the BCCI-appointed committee till it was disbanded in the aftermath of the pitch fiasco at Delhi's Feroze Shah Kolta stadium that hosted the abandoned fifth and final ODI between India and Sri Lanka in December last.

The match was abandoned due to inconsistent bounce that made it dangerous to play on and the International Cricket Council later slapped a one-year ban on the venue from hosting any international ties.
