NEW DELHI: The Commonwealth Games in Delhi has received a thumbs down from respondents of a survey carried out by a travel portal among travellers from two of the largest Commonwealth nations- UK and Canada.
Around 56.7 per cent of the respondents, of the survey, said that Delhi is not the right choice to host this October 3-14 sporting event.
Mood brightens up for crisis-hit Games
The Commonwealth Games Survey 2010, conducted by TripAdvisor, one of the largest travel site, say that 93.5 per cent of respondents will not be visiting Delhi to witness this mega sporting event.
While 30 per cent of the 635 respondents said they are not interested in the Games and hence were not coming, about 25 per cent had plans to travel to other destinations.
However, 14 per cent of the respondents said they are concerned about the security during the Games and hence are not going. Another seven per cent said they think Delhi will not offer a great experience.
One reassuring result for the Games' organisers could be that 54.3 per cent of the respondents had not heard about any alleged corruption related to the Games.
"While rumours of corruption have tarnished the image of the Games, more respondents - 54.3 per cent were unawares/had not heard about the alleged corruption related to the games," the travel portal, which had put up the survey form on its website between August 31 to September 14, 2010 said.
The good news for the hospitality sector is that 10 per cent of the respondents said they are coming down to watch the Games.
