MS Dhoni could be fit in time to play the final of the ongoing tri-series against Sri Lanka on Thursday.
India's stand-in captain Virat Kohli hinted at the possibility before the toss during their final league match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Dhoni injured his right hamstring while making 27 in India's opening match against the West Indies on June 30.
The BCCI subsequently announced that Ambati Rayudu would replace Dhoni in the squad.
If Dhoni returns to the playing XI, it would most likely be at the expense of Murali Vijay.
