Chennai: Skipper MS Dhoni has added another feather to his cap with India's comfortable victory by eight wickets in the first Test against Australia in Chennai.

It was Dhoni's 21st Test victory as captain, taking him level with Sourav Ganguly.

Dhoni's 21 wins have come in 44 Tests as captain (while Ganguly's came in 49 Tests). His success percentage is 47.72 compared to Ganguly's 42.85.

Dhoni has lost 12 Tests as captain. Ganguly, incidentally, lost 13.

Captaincy has also brought out the best of Dhoni as a batsman. He averages 44.75 as captain, which is better than his career average of 39.87.

Ganguly's batting, on the other hand, suffered when he was captain. He averaged 37.66 as captain, which is worse than his career average of 42.17.

Dhoni also has the highest Test score by any Indian captain - 224 in the just concluded Chennai Test.

Ganguly's highest Test score as captain was 144.

So is Dhoni India's best captain of all time? The jury is not yet out on that!
