MS Dhoni smashed the quickest Champions League T20 half-century as the Chennai Super Kings surged to 202 for four in their 20 overs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a Group B match at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Thursday. Dhoni smashed one four and eight massive sixes as he raced to his 50 off only 16 deliveries, finally ending on 63 not out off 19 balls.
Dhoni figured in a 60-run partnership with Suresh Raina for the fourth wicket, off only 29 deliveries. Raina had established the foundation with a wonderful 84 off 57 balls with nine boundaries and a six.
Raina dominated the third wicket partnership of 70 off 50 balls with Subramaniam Badrinath (13) which allowed Dhoni the freedom to swing, and swing hard.
Dhoni was extremely brutal on Thisara Perera (3-0-60-0) in the medium-pacer's third and final over, as the right-handed blaster smashed five sixes, four of them in succession.
Dale Steyn (2-23) and JP Duminy (2-27) were the only bowlers who could hold their heads high as the South African pair ended with combined figures of 8-0-50-4.
