England cheating in appointing a foreign boss: Carragher

Liverpool FC defender Jamie Carragher believes the Football Association (FA) would be cheating England in appointing a foreign coach again to replace incumbent Fabio Capello in 2012.

"I've got nothing against Fabio Capello. I went to the World Cup in South Africa and got to know him a little bit. But that's not what international football is. It's like saying if our keeper's not good enough, we'll go and get Gianluigi Buffon from Italy.t's a form of cheating in international football and a bit embarrassing. The next manager of England should be English," said Carragher.

"I can understand some countries, like the African nations, trying to build the game up and develop. But for England, such a big football nation, I don't think we should have a foreign manager," The Sun quoted him, as adding.

"I can't say the World Cup went great under Capello because it never did. He came in with a big aura and a CV that McClaren didn't have. But if every club had an English manager, someone would have to win the league, then they'd accumulate these trophies," Carragher said.

Carra, 33, who won England caps under Swede Sven Goran Eriksson too, also blamed clubs for appointing overseas bosses.

He added: "Chelsea appointed a 33-year-old manager, Andre Villas-Boas, this summer. Years ago someone like David Moyes would have got that job. That still happens in Italy and Spain, but not in England any more," he said. (ANI)
