England's Bairstow vows to clinch keeper post from teammate Buttler

English cricketer Jonny Bairstow has vowed to fight for the post of limited-overs wicketkeeper with Jos Buttler and said that he is ready to work hard for that.

Bairstow's statement followed on the heels of new one-day and Twenty20 coach Ashley Giles rooting for Buttler ahead of Bairstow after Craig Kieswetter was relieved of the gloves following his disappointing tour of India, the Daily Star reports.

Bairstow, who missed the one-dayers in India because of a family illness, said that everyone is fighting for the available positions on the team, and added that he has been working hard to improve his wicket-keeping so that he can take over from Buttler when he gets an opportunity.

And with a host of big-name batsmen coming back in for the ODIs, Buttler's hold on the gloves could also keep Bairstow out of that side, too.

England will hope to pack a similar punch to their explosive opening victory in Auckland on Saturday when they struck 13 sixes on the way to 214-7, which sealed a 40-run win. (ANI)
