Andrew Flintoff has admitted that fight fans want to see him get battered in the boxing ring on Friday.

The former England Test cricketer makes his pro debut when he faces American heavy weight Richard Dawson at Manchester Arena.

"There are people who want to see me get beat, just like those who wanted me to get out first ball when I played cricket. The great thing about Twitter is I didn't know how many people wanted to punch me now I am boxing," the Daily Mirror quoted Flintoff, as saying.

"There's a lot of passionate people in boxing, and they want to protect it. But maybe it'll attract a different audience to boxing, who will see how hard it is, the sacrifices we make. But I can't worry about outside pressure. It's just the pressure you put on yourself," he added.

Flintoff has shed more than three stone and sparred 300 rounds to face fellow novice Dawson, who has won both his pro contests but at a poor level.

Flintoff added: "I have never trained as hard as the last four months and I will now just enjoy the fight. I would never swap boxing for my cricket career, but I was drifting a bit and couldn't refuse this opportunity." (ANI)
