Former world champion Miller say new Nike clubs may cost McIlroy the Masters

Former Golf world champion Johnny Miller has said that golf ace Rory McIlroy's switch to Nike clubs may cost him dearly in the Masters this season.

The 1976 Open champion said that although Nike may make good clubs, it takes time to adjust to a whole new set especially when McIlroy gave outstanding performances late in 2012 with his old clubs, the Mirror reports.

Miller further said that he had made the same mistake as the current World No.2, adding that he lost his earlier form after he switched clubs during his career.

According to Miller, it may take three months to a year before McIlroy becomes fully comfortable with his new gear, adding that it takes time to trust the gear under major pressure.

Miller further said that McIlroy will need some good finishes leading up to Augusta to have confidence enough to win at the Masters.

The world No 2 has struggled for form with his new Nike clubs since January and after completing 12 competitive rounds this year, the Ulsterman added the Valero Texas Open to his schedule this week before teeing up in Augusta next Thursday, the report added. (ANI)
