This edition of IPL has been exciting to the core and heading towards the closure of the league stages, the play off seats are still up for the grabs. This has happened because there is a very little difference between all the teams. The teams that haven’t done well are Deccan Chargers and Pune Warriors India, but both of these teams have had some very close finishes.
Both the matches to be played today are extremely crucial. Royal Challengers Bangalore faces Deccan in a must win battle. Bangalore have pulled together one of the best sides for the Twenty20 format but they had a shaky start to the season because of which they find themselves in a spot of bother. But they are one team who are so dangerous that if they make it to the play offs, they can emerge out victorious with ease.
Deccan on the other hand had little luck with wins this season and decided to play party spoilers for Rajasthan Royals. Rahul Dravid had marched his resources brilliantly and led from the front. It’s just that they weren’t able to pull off a couple of close games, especially the one against Delhi Daredevils, which they lost by one run.
Deccan ruined Rajasthan’s party, and would again look to do the same when they face Bangalore in Hyderabad, while Rajasthan will look to do the same to Mumbai Indians, who should have won their encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede stadium.
Deccan however have a huge obstacle in front of them named Chris Gayle. Cricket is no doubt a team sport but there are some individuals who make huge difference and such has been Gayle for the Bangalore franchise. His innings against Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla was one of the best Twenty20 innings ever. How many times have we seen a batsman hit 13 sixes in an innings?
Without a doubt he is the best ever in this format, and has created similar impact in various conditions all over the world. It will be a good contest at the top between him and Dale Steyn. If the likes of the Gayle and AB DeVilliers have a good game, then it should be an easy walk for Bangalore to the playoffs. Looking forward to another great day of cricket.More columns
