England limited-overs coach Ashley Giles is searching for an appropriate pace bowling all-rounder, who would bat at number seven position in the one-day squad, to help them win the Champions Trophy.

Tim Bresnan filled that role for the Test team and Chris Woakes looks the most likely to do the same for the ODI competition, the Daily Mirror reports.

A persistent elbow problem has ruled Bresnan out for the foreseeable future and Giles wants his pivotal pace bowling all-rounder role filled, the paper added.

Woakes will get first dibs on the spot in New Zealand, but Giles will go to Australia to watch Rikki Clarke return from a seven-year England exile to put his case forward with the Lions, the paper said.

Although he is known as a Twenty20 gun for hire these days, Luke Wright also has a chance.

Giles claimed the important thing is the balance of the team, adding they need someone to fill the No.7 spot, whether in the Champions Trophy or World Cup in 2015 and there are only a certain number of guys in the country who can do it.

Giles added Woakes, who is replacing Bresnan in the squad, are similar cricketers, adding he certainly fulfils that role.

Giles further said even Clarke, who over the last few years has developed nicely, is an option for that spot. (ANI)
