Former Australia batsman Matthew Hayden has said the International Cricket Council (ICC) should focus more on introducing quality to cricket rather than quantity.

Hayden described the ICC Champions Trophy 50-over event as inconsequential, saying that fans were finding it difficult to follow so much cricket throughout the world.

"As a fan, you follow different tournaments around the world with great difficulty," News.com.au quoted Hayden, as saying.

"For the player, there is definitely not enough relevance to the tournaments that you play. There is a consistent lack of focus and direction on some of the major tournaments," he added.

"The ICC Champions Trophy holds little to no relevance in the context of cricket and the landscape. The (cricket) landscape is challenged by the sheer quantity of cricket," he said.
