The second ODI between India and Zimbabwe at Harare was Rohit Sharma's 100th ODI - a club of which there are far too many members to enumerate.

But in the process Rohit also achieved a slightly dubious distinction.

He is the only member of a much more select club comprising those who have played 100 ODIs and 0 Tests.

Kieron Pollard could give the lonely Rohit company soon.

The West Indian has played 85 ODIs without opening his Test match account.

The only other Indians to have played over 50 ODIs without the privilege of appearing in a Test are Dinesh Mongia and Yusuf Pathan, who have 57 ODI caps each.

Mongia has been consigned to the bowels of history but Pathan has the theoretical opportunity to increase that tally.

It seems a long shot, however, for him to reach 100 given the glut of pretenders jockeying for a place in the Indian middle order.

Rohit should never have been a member of this club of one.

Back in 2010, he was all set to make his Test debut against South Africa in Nagpur.

Fate intervened by letting him twist his ankle on the morning of the Test and reserve wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha gleefully infiltrated into the playing XI.

A Test series against the same opponents looms in the not so distant future.

Will Fate set the record straight?

Let's wait and see.
