India (126/47.4) v West Indies (126/41) at Perth on December 6, 1991: West Indies chasing a meager target were eight down when as many as 51 runs were required fir victory. Curtly Ambrose was instrumental in reducing this margin and was run out when his team was 14 short of the target. A superb catch by skipper Mohammad Azaruddin settled the issue with scores leveled. Ambrose made 17 and had figures of 8.4-3-9-2 as he was adjudged Man of the match.
India (248-5/50) v Zimbabwe (248/50) at Indore on November 18, 1993: Manoj Prabhakar’s award winning effort includes a superb innings of 91 and analysis of 10-0-41-2 including a crucial last over when Zimbabwe needed ten runs. They managed to get eight off the first five balls and a last ball run out resulted in one leg-bye.
India (236/49.5) v Zimbabwe (236-8/50) at Paarl on January 27, 1997: India needed just two off the last ball. Eddo Brandes who was instrumental in mini Indian collapse, bowled it wide. In trying to garner two byes a run out resulted with scores leveled. Robin Singh (48 runs off 31 balls) and Eddo Brandes (9.5-1-41-5) shared the Man of the match awards.
India (338/49.5) v England (338-5/50) at Bangalore on February 27, 2011: It was indeed a big ticket match in the last World Cup which in the ultimate analysis India won for the second time after a long gap of 28 years. Andrew Strauss led the side from the front and a monumental innings of 158 from 145 deliveries. It completely overshadowed Sachin Tendulkar’s equally impressive innings of 120 – his 98th ton in international cricket. Strauss was Man of the Match.
India (280-5/50) v England (270-8/48.5) at Lord’s on September 11, 2011: The rain ensued that Duckworth & Lewis Rule was imposed and the match at the former headquarters of the game ended in a tie. Once again two players shared the Man of the Match award namely Ravi Bopara (96) and Suresh Raina (84) for their brilliant batting displays.
India (236-9/50) v Sri Lanka ((236-9/50) at Adelaide on February 14, 2012: The scores of both teams were identical to the core; 236 for nine wickets off their allotted 50 overs. Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was instrumental in second successive revival for India with yet another brilliant unbeaten innings of 58 off just 69 balls with three fours and a six. However this time he failed to post a win for India but went on to win the Man of the Match award.
