Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council chairman Rajiv Shukla on Monday refused to comment on the detention of two Indian Premier League (IPL) players for their participation in a rave party in Mumbai on Sunday night,

However, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah said: "Rave parties go on all the time in Mumbai. We shouldn't blame IPL just because some players were caught. Police should take action against them."

Two IPL players, Rahul Sharma of India and Wayne Parnell of South Africa, both of who play for Pune Warriors, were detained and later released by Mumbai Police on payment of bond. Police claimed to have busted the rave party in city's Oakwood Hotel in Juhu last night.

Sharma however, claimed that he was at the hotel for a different party. "I went for a birthday party at Oakwoods Hotel in Juhu. I had just reached there, but nobody was present", he added.

Sharma's mother too said her son has done no wrong.

"My son is fine. He went for a birthday party. How would he know whether people are going to take drugs over there, or there is going to be a police raid? My son is fine. There is no problem. He has done no wrong," she said.

The IPL over the last week has been caught in a slew of controversies.

First, there was a sting operation done by a TV channel that showed IPL players indulging in spot fixing. Then Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan's ban from the Wankhede Stadium for five years following a scuffle with the guards.

And then the arrest and subsequent release of Royal Challengers Bangalore player Luke Pomersbach on charges of molesting an Indian-American woman at the ITC Maurya Sheraton Hotel in Delhi. (ANI)
