A rugby international's mother was jailed for banking more than 100,000 pounds in drugs money while claiming benefits.

Susan Gleeson was sentenced to 15 months for stashing away the cash from a 1.5million pounds heroin drug smuggling operation masterminded by her husband, Paul, and he is already serving a seven-year jail sentence, the Daily Express reports.

Ireland international Gleeson, who plays for Hull Kingston Rovers, watched tearfully as his mother was found guilty of money laundering at Canterbury Crown Court.

The jury had heard how former hairdresser Susan, enjoyed the trappings of illicit proceeds, including holidays to Las Vegas, the Canaries, Greece and the Dominican Republic despite the fact she was claiming handouts, the paper said.

Susan claimed the 100,000 pounds in her bank account had come from her husband's window business, which went bust in 2007

Police raided the family's 190,000-pound home in Wigan in 2011 and uncovered five flat-screen TVs, a 12,000 pounds, 18-carat diamond ring, four bottles of champagne, evidence of luxurious holidays and a 20,000-pound Mercedes sports car, the paper added.

The court heard Paul Gleeson took Susan, Sean and his girlfriend to a garage and handed over 20,000 pound in cash for the Mercedes.

Susan claimed the 100,000 pounds in her bank account had either come from her husband's window business, which went bust in 2007, from savings, or from her son, the paper reported. (ANI)
