It would be unethical to be part of MCA committee: Vengsarkar

Mumbai: After losing the elections for the Mumbai Cricket Association president's post to Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh last month, former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has declined to take up the chairmanship of the MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee, offered to him by his rival, for ethical reasons.

"Since the club representatives voted against me, I feel it is unethical to be a part of any committee of MCA. However, I will keep on churning out talent for Mumbai through my academies which I have been doing for the last 18 years," Vengsarkar, veteran of 116 Tests and also an ex-Chief Selector said on Sunday.

Deshmukh had contacted him on Saturday and requested him to become the new Chairman of CIC, which decides matters such as appointment of the new coaches for the various age groups, including seniors, and various selection committees.

MCA's joint secretary, Nitin Dalal, had said on Saturday that whether Vengsarkar was willing to take up the offer would be known by Tuesday, but apparently the former cricketer has already made up his mind.

The other members of the CIC, appointed, are Sanjay Manjrekar, Chandrakant Pandit, Balvindar Sandhu, Milind Rege, Mayank Khandwalla, Sanjay Patil, Deepak Patil and Ravi Thakkar.
