Role- Vice Captain/ Top-order batsman
Following an inauspicious debut at home, Rahane has been India’s best batsman in Tests over the last couple of years. Rahane’s record away from home has been nothing short of spectacular and he has registered centuries away from home against New Zealand, England, Australia and Sri Lanka. The diminutive batsman from Mumbai became the fifth Indian batsman to score centuries in both innings of a Test emulating Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli. He scored 127 and 100 not out against South Africa at Delhi in December 2015. Rahane is also one of just 11 batsmen to score more than 1000 runs in a single season in the Ranji Trophy. Rahane has been appointed as vice-captain for the tour and the added responsibility should bring out the best in him.
