Lorgat rules out window for IPL

Haroon Lorgat, the outgoing ICC chief executive, has said that the ICC has no plans to create a window for the IPL in the Future Tours Programme.

"The consequence of that is what do we do with the Big Bash League? What do we do with other premier leagues - Sri Lanka is launching one, Bangladesh has one," asked Lorgat.

"I know people might say the IPL is the premier league, but once you provide a window for one particular member, you have to be conscious of the fact you may well have to do it for other members. Hence why we have not been supportive of a window specifically for any one of those domestic leagues." he continued.

The ICC's refusal to consider the idea almost certainly means that international players will continue to turn down the prospect of playing for their national team in favour of the IPL in case of a clash in schedule.

This year, some West Indian players chose to display their wares in the IPL rather than against Australia. Next year, the Kiwis may do the same since they are due to visit England during the second half of the IPL.
