Berlin: Newly-crowned Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel could imagine himself in a Mercedes or Ferrari racing car in the distant future but for now he will stick with Red Bull, the German said on Friday.
Vettel, who became Formula One's youngest world champion on Sunday by winning the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, said compatriot and seven-times world champion Michael Schumacher had told him what it was like driving for the Italian and German carmakers.
"Obviously he told me what kind of special moments he experienced driving for Ferrari or Mercedes. Both brands are the past, present and certainly the future of Formula One," Vettel said in a column in Bild newspaper.
My shot selection has been a problem: Dhoni
"Every driver dreams of Ferrari and Mercedes. If one ever ends up driving for them depends on a number of things. Everything must fit together. The myth alone is not enough," said the 23-year-old.
"But this is still a long way away. My next aim is to defend the title with Red Bull," he said.
Vettel, who has returned to the Middle East for tests of the new Pirelli tyres at Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina circuit, will return to his hometown of Heppenheim on Sunday for a major celebration.
