Arjun Tendulkar, son of batting great Sachin Tendulkar, made his league debut for Aakash Tigers MWS in the Mumbai T20 League opener against Triumphs Knights MNE at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old showed no signs of nerves and came up with an all-round performance in Tigers' 5-wicket win over Knights.
Handed the responsibility of bowling in the powerplay overs by Tigers captain Dhawal Kulkarni, Arjun finished with figures of 1 for 21 despite not being brought back into the attack for the fourth over. Arjun bowled all his overs inside the powerplay.
Knights posted 147, thanks to a 56-ball 90 from their captain Suryakumar Yadav. The Knights star, who was in fine form for Mumbai Indians in their title-winning campaign in IPL 2019, hit 7 sixes and 4 boundaries in his whirlwind knock.
However, Knights ended up on the losing side as Kaustubh Pawar(34) and Aakarshit Gomel (41) stitched a 67-run opening stand to help Tigers seal the early momentum in 148-run chase. Arjun Tendulkar, who was promoted to bat at No. 3, shone with the bat as well as the teenager hit 23 from 19 balls. Arjun also hit a huge six over long-on when he took on left-arm spinner Vinayak Bhoir.
Arjun Tendulkar was the costliest buy at the Mumbai T20 League auction held last week in Mumbai. The 19-year-old all-rounder was bought for Rs 5 Lakh by Aakash Tigers.
