Nathan Lyon has said its an honour to succeed retired Michael Hussey as Australia's new song-leader, however, the off-spinner added that he is more concerned with cementing his position as team's number spinner during the India tour.
Lyon inherited the singing role from the outgoing Hussey after Australia's five-wicket defeat of Sri Lanka in Sydney that also sealed a 3-0 series whitewash, News.com.au reports.
Rated a popular team man with deep respect for the baggy green, Lyon has figured in 19 of Australia's past 20 Tests, prompting Hussey to appoint the rangy tweaker to steer victory celebrations.
Hussey swore Lyon to secrecy about his new role before announcing his exit at the Sydney Test. Maintaining the charade was not easy.
While Lyon is the youngest Australian off-spinner to 50 Test wickets, he is under pressure after failing to penetrate in fourth innings this summer against Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Lyon expressed hope that he will be able to get more success for Australia during the tough Test series against India. (ANI)
