India’s ODI squad for the series against the Windies will be announced on Thursday and there are a lot of issues the selectors have to keep in mind while selecting the squad.
The primary issues are regarding MS Dhoni’s cover and the management of workload of Captain Virat Kohli. It is still not clear whether the squad will be announced for the first three games or the entire series.
A couple of players who featured in the Asia Cup squad might miss out this time. Rishabh Pant has a very good chance to feature in the squad as Dhoni’s cover. Of late, Dhoni has been struggling with his batting but his wicket-keeping skills are still excellent.
“We all know that Dhoni is going to play till the World Cup, but there is no harm in grooming Pant, who could be a terrific No.6 or 7 batsman, who has the ability to finish the games,” TOI quoted a senior BCCI official.
Kedhar Jadhav is unlikely to feature in this squad due to the harmstring injury, and that opens up a slot in the middle-order.
