Pacquiao calls Hatton's comeback decision 'mistake'

Boxing great Manny Pacquiao has said Ricky Hatton's decision to make a comeback is a mistake because it is very hard to get back into good boxing shape after being out of the training camp for such a long period.

Hatton will fight in Manchester on Saturday and Pacquiao, whose stunning knockout of the British boxer in May 2009 eventually forced him to quit last year, believes it is not a good idea.

"I do not think it is a good idea to come back once a fighter has retired. It's not something I plan on doing. I know how hard it is to get back into good boxing shape after being out of the training camp for only three or four months," the Daily Express quoted Pacquiao, as saying.

"I cannot imagine what it is like after a number of years. It's not just the conditioning, it's the reflexes, legs, mental conditioning, and so much more. But this is Ricky's decision to make and I respect him for it," he added.

Hatton has not fought for three-and-a-half years since his devastating second-round defeat by eight-weight world champion Pacquiao in Las Vegas, which left him unconscious for several worrying minutes on the canvas at the MGM Grand Arena.

Hatton meets Ukrainian former WBA holder Vyacheslav Senchenko at the Manchester Arena in front of a 24,000 crowd, which sold out even before the opponent had been named. (ANI)
