Leander Paes and Canada's Daniel Nestor, the 40-plus pairing, entered the semi-finals of China Open after defeating Italian pair of Spanish pair of David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 on Thursday.
Paes and Nestor, who have already won a title together this year, at Winston-Salem in August, were at the top of their game against the Spanish combine of David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco, coming through their last eight encounter 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.
In the last four on Saturday, Nestor and Paes, the top-seeds, will face the Italian combine of Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi.
In the women's section, Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black notched up a straight-game win over Chinese Taipei’s Yung-Jan Chan and Jie Zheng in the quarterfinals of the women's doubles.
The eight seeded Indo-Zimbabwe pair prevailed over the Taiwanese combo 6-4, 6-1 at the China National Tennis Center.
