New York: Prakash Amritraj and Sunitha Rao failed to make the main draw of the US Open after both the players crashed out of the qualifying competition following first-round losses in their respective matches.
Prakash was knocked out 3-6, 4-6 by America's Ryan Sweeting in one hour and 10 minutes on Tuesday.
Sunitha Rao, who is second highest ranked Indian in WTA charts, was also handed a 3-6, 4-6 defeat by Argentina's Soledad Esperon in women's singles qualifying for the last Grand Slam of the year.
