The fickle nature of the T20 format is pretty much in evidence with the results of the games so far. Fancied teams have lost to teams that have struggled badly in their other matches, and so, with the first round of matches still on, there is as yet no team that can say with certainty that they will qualify for the knockouts.
Some teams have performed well above expectations and that has been the beauty of this edition. No team has been able to take it easy against anybody, and so, no captain or coach is thinking of resting their major players and keep them relatively fresh for the second month when a little more light could be shed on who the qualifiers will be.
The in-form team has been the much underrated Rajasthan team. They go about their business quietly from the player auction to the ground but they come thoroughly prepared. They are led by one of the greatest batsmen the world has seen, a player who has been known for his meticulous preparation to batting or whatever job is thrust upon him.
If ever there was a total team player in the game, it has to be Rahul Dravid who will, without fuss or show-sha bazi, go about the task assigned to him and give it his best shot. In an age where self publicity is the norm, he is that rarity who would rather go under the radar.
So while the world talks about the best captains in the game, his record is forgotten since there is nobody to tom-tom about it nor will he, God forbid, bring it up himself. That is why when youngsters come in the Indian team, his name will never be mentioned by them for the help, encouragement and guidance he will gladly give because the youngsters are smart enough to know that will not get them headlines.
His team Rajasthan are winning just about everything and are leading the table with some truly impressive wins. Hyderabad continue to disappoint with their batting but it is their bowling that is rescuing them.
Steyn, Ishant and Amit Mishra have struck a formidable partnership, and Thisara Perera takes good advantage of coming in to bowl after Steyn and Ishant, when the batsmen are looking for an easier time, and picks wickets.
They will take on the Kings Eleven Punjab who also are on a high after their win against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders, so it should be a good contest indeed.
