MS Dhoni recently stood in his 200th ODI as captain against Afghanistan at the Asia Cup in UAE. According to sources it is believed that the BCCI selectors are not happy with Dhoni returning as skipper.
Media reports quoted one of the BCCI sources close to India Today saying that, "The selectors are not pleased that wholesale changes were rung in for the match and both stand-in captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Shikhar Dhawan sat out with MS Dhoni forced to be captain again, out of nowhere".
The squad selected for the Asia Cup did not feature regular skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was made the stand-in captain for the tournament. But in the game against Afghanistan, which was a dead rubber as India had already qualified for the final, both the captain and vice-captain (Shikhar Dhawan) decided to skip the game. The reason behind sitting out that game was perhaps to turn up fresh for the final as the matches in the Asia Cup had only a day’s gap between them.
Eventually, Dhoni returned to the captaincy after 696 days and also, became the oldest ODI captain to lead India.
