The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) has said that it was disappointed at the handling of the Oscar Pistorius case by its former investigating officer Hilton Botha.

According to ANCWL spokesperson Gauteng Jackie Mofokeng, Botha had behaved in an unprofessional manner and appeared unprepared during his cross-examination by Pistorius' lawyer, News24 reports.

The ANCWL also criticised the cheering of Pistorius' supporters after his bail was announced, stating that the supporters had forgotten that Reeva Steenkamp, an innocent woman, had lost her life.

However, Mofokeng said the league respected the decision of the court to grant Pistorius a bail, and added that they will remain vigilant in their demand for justice in the murder case of Reeva Steenkamp.

Mofokeng also said that the ANCWL is satisfied that the charges will remain a schedule six offence carrying a possible life sentence for Pistorius if he is found guilty. (ANI)
