After a poor show by the openers in the first Two Tests, there is a possibility of Shikhar Dhawan coming back into the Test fray.

As per a report in The Mumbai Mirror, the attacking opener was spotted in the Indian team’s hotel with his cricket kitbag. Dhawan stays with his family in Melbourne during off-season where team India is scheduled to play their next Test match. After the culmination of the T20I series, Dhawan decided to stay back in Australia while other T20 specialists went back to India.

The southpaw was given a decent run in the England Tests, but he failed to grab the opportunity as he only managed 162 runs in eight innings. Later, young Prithvi Shaw was preferred over Dhawan for the home Tests against the Windies.

Prithvi Shaw was the first-choice opener for the Down Under Tests but he had to go back to India after suffering an ankle injury during a warm-up game. With KL Rahul and Murli Vijay both failing as the team’s opener, there is a slight possibility of Dhawan getting a chance to open with Mayank Aggarwal.

The next Test will start on 26th December at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
