Shubman Gill has been hailed as a prodigy and the next big thing in Indian cricket. From being the player of the series when India won the U-19 World Cup in 2018 to elevating to the senior ODI side this year, the Punjab lad has indeed come a long way.

The ongoing IPL is another litmus test for the batsman and during the match between his team Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens, he once again proved his worth by scoring a fine 65 that came off 39 deliveries.

This was just his second IPL fifty but a very important one as he showed he has all the capabilities to anchor the innings as and when required.

He opened the batting for the hosts in the absence of Chris Lynn and made sure he was there till the start of the 15th over to lay the perfect platform for Andre Russell to fire on all cylinders.

His innings was a carefree and a chanceless one. An innings that saw many take to twitter and praise the youngster.

The accolades are pouring in for the 19-year-old batsman and with the Indian team for the World Cup to be named on April 15, this sort of innings is sure to give the selectors something to think about.
