N Srinivasan is believed to have made an unofficial return as BCCI chief, resuming charge at 8 pm on Tuesday night, according to NDTV which quoted a BCCI source.
However, Times Now has reported that BCCI officials have denied that Srinivasan has returned to the post.
The latest developments follow the conclusion of the BCCI's internal probe into the spot-fixing scandal that engulfed the IPL earlier this year. The probe by a two-member panel exonerated India Cements, owner of Chennai Super Kings, of any involvement.
Srinivasan had been asked to step aside as BCCI President by the board's working committee until the end of the probe.
However the Bombay High Court threw a spanner in the works by declaring that the panel's findings were invalid.
The BCCI working committee is meeting on Friday. Srinivasan can officially return to his post only after being reinstated by the working committee.
