English cricketers Ben Stokes and Matt Coles have been expelled from the 'second-tier' England Lions squad after they ignored written warnings about their misconduct and excessive drinking while on tour in Australia.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) performance director David Parsons has said that it has been necessary to terminate the involvement of both Stokes and Coles in the Oz tour as they have ignored the instructions given to them around their match preparation and recovery, the Mirror reports.

Parsons added that he hoped that with the support of the ECB and their respective counties, both the cricketers will take positive steps to give themselves the chance of fulfilling their potential.

All-rounder Stokes, who won Twenty20 and one-day international caps in 2011, and pacer Coles were forced to issue apologies for their conduct before leaving the squad on tour in Australia.

Apologising to the players and coaches involved about his behavior, Coles said that he is sorry about his misconduct and has learnt his lesson, adding that he would like to move forward from this by looking ahead to the start of the county season at Kent.

Stokes, who was arrested for allegedly obstructing a police officer in another drink-related incident two years ago, also apologised and said that he is determined to make a comeback from this situation and looked forward to getting back to his county to start pre-season preparations. (ANI)
