The Flying Sikh Milkha Singh was our first real athletics superstar. He became the first Indian to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. He won multiple golds in Asian Games and was persuaded by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to take part in one last race featuring Pakistani Abdul Khaliq in 1960.
Khaliq was known as "The Flying bird of Asia" and "The Fastest Man of Asia" but he lost to Milkha that 1960 race. Milkha regularly clocked world record level timings but he couldn't convert that at the Olympics where his best position was fourth.
