IPL V has been the most successful of all editions so far. With chock-a-block stadiums, close finishes and controversies, it’s been a wholesome entertainment for everyone. After 54 days non-stop cricket, KKR has emerged as champions and with that the IPL hoopla has ended.
It’s time for some serious introspection and evaluation of players’ performances. We take a look at the biggest hits and flops of IPL V and whether they were paisa vasool performers for their teams:
The biggest hits (batsmen)
Chris Gayle: The West Indian maverick batsman was overlooked during the 2011 IPL auction and he joined Royal Challengers Bangalore only as a replacement for Dirk Nannes later. Surely, no doubt, the snub by all the franchises played on his mind, that’s why we saw a different Gayle altogether. He bludgeoned his rivals and sent shockwaves among other teams as if to prove a point to his naysayers in retaliation.

Runs: 733
Gautam Gambhir: He usually roams around on the cricketing field as a silent mercenary devoid of any expressions but still he evoked sharp reactions among franchise owners in the IPL auction and bagged the highest price in 2011. True to his nature, his bat did the talking this time and he played a pivotal role in leading his side Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2012 title.
