'Troubled' Kiwi batsman Ryder's immediate future hangs in balance

Kiwi batsman Jesse Ryder's imminent future is likely to become clearer when he, his manager Aaron Klee and New Zealand Cricket Players Association boss Heath Mills sit down with New Zealand Cricket's Director of Cricket, John Buchanan, and team manager Mike Sandle to go over his annual performance review.

Every player who is contracted to NZC has to go through the process at the season's end, but the dialogue on Ryder is expected to be more vigorous than others.

NZC Chief Executive David White last month had said Ryder would most probably not get a new contract, and things seem doomed for the left-hand batsman for now.

It is expected that NZC won't give a new contract to Ryder, when the list is announced on July 1, but will support him off the field as he battles back from unspecified personal issues that saw him take a month off from cricket in March.

If this happens, Ryder would be dependent on the selectors' whims to earn match payments, and could receive a six-month retainer from Cricket Wellington, assuming they include him in their 14 contracted players list. (ANI)
