A prison cricket team has lost its two star players, jailed Pakistani players Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, after they were moved to the "cushy" Category C Canterbury Prison in Kent.

The two cricketers, jailed for deliberately bowling no-balls in a Test as part of a betting racket, had held training sessions and mock matches with a tennis ball in the exercise yard during their time at the Wandsworth Prison.

"The team were gutted when they were told Butt and Asif had been shipped out," the Mirror quoted a source, as saying.

"The pair created a real buzz. Now that they have gone, the cricket team just isn't the same," he added.

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir, 19, and sports agent Mazhar Majeed, 36, were also jailed for their part in the betting scam.

Butt and Asif want to be deported to serve their sentences in Pakistan.

However, businessman Dalawar Chaudhry, who has visited them in prison, said: "It would give the wrong impression. We have advised them to serve their time here." (ANI)
