England bowlers Adil Rashid and David Willey grabbed three wickets each and India captain Virat Kohli made 71 as the touring side scored 256 for eight in the deciding one-day international on Tuesday.
Leg-spinner Rashid grabbed the prize scalp of Kohli, who fell to a beauty that pitched on leg and clipped the top of off stump to leaving the prolific right-hander wide-eyed in disbelief.
It is only the first time that Kohli was clean bowled by a leg-spinner in 200 ODI innings and 112 Test innings.
It was also the first time since November 2014 against Sri Lanka, that Kohli got out to spinners in three consecutive ODI innings.
Later in the Indian innings, Williey dismissed MS Dhoni with a cracking delivery. Dhoni was squared up completely and found the outside edge that was pouched comfortably by Jos Buttler. Dhoni looked to go hammer and tongs at that stage but had to depart for a 66-ball 42.
In the crucial 25 deliveries that followed Dhoni's dismissal, Shardul Thakur 22(13) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar 21(35) guided India to a fighting 256/8 with the series at stake.
Kohli, during his knock, became the fastest ODI captain to reach 3000 runs.
