The latest OnePlus, the seventh iteration, that fans are eagerly awaiting in 2019 will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 855.
Co-Founder Pete Lau while addressing Qualcomm's tech summit in Hawaii spilled the beans, to the delight of his fans.
"OnePlus only makes flagship smartphones, and we believe that the Snapdragon 855 is the best and only choice. We are thrilled by its powerful performance and 5G capabilities. OnePlus will continue to bring its users the best technology and the best user experience possible,” Pete Lau was quoted as saying during his outing in Hawaii.
However, among all the revelations, there seems to be a confusion that has resulted into who a claim- Which Smartphone will feature the Snapdragon 855 first. Brands themselves may not have ignited this battle, but fans definitely seem to be rooting for their favourite manufacturers.
Post Lau's outing, most reports without an iota of research and background check reported that OnePlus device would be the first to use the SD 855. The event at Hawaii itself saw Samsung speak on day one, and Lau emerging on the second, therefore adding to much confusion.
Even as reports did little scrutiny, a story emerged in Engadget claiming a major blunder on the part of OnePlus.
According to Engadget, a side-deck that originally read as "among the first" got misinterpreted as "first" while Lau was speaking. Although it did cause some embarrassment to OnePlus, fans seem happy that their latest OP will house the latest Qualcomm chipset.
In terms of price, the OnePlus 7 could be $200 expensive than the 6T. In terms of benefits, users can expect the 855 chipset to handle data speeds 100 times faster than the 4G variant. The 855 chipset built on the 7 nm process technology also has features such as Cinema-grade videography, 4K HDR video playback, and an AI engine that Qualcomm touts as "4th grade". The AI engine provides stellar AI capabilities, says a Qualcomm website.
The price-hike is still debatable with folks at Qualcomm believing that prices could cool post shipments commence.
The launch could be timed around May-June, these were the months when OP3, OP5, and OP6 were launched.
For Samsung fans, the great news is the Snapdragon 855 could be seen on the Samsung S10. The special 10th anniversary edition is expected to house this 5G chipset along with a 12GB RAM. The device is expected to feature a 6.7-inch display.
The launch date for Samsung is rumoured to be February 2019.
